The MOLECULAR MYCOLOGY AND MYCOPARASITISM GROUP,

Department of Microbiology, at the University of Innsbruck is looking for a PhD CANDIDATE to work on a new project focusing on nutrient signaling and mycoparasitism in Trichoderma atroviride. The project involves microscopy monitoring and novel approaches for identifying transcription factor effectors.

DURATION: 3 years (Starting May 2026), with a possible 1-year extension.

ROLE WITHIN THE RESEARCH PROJECT:

Microscopy of fluorophore-tagged transcription factor localization.

Development/optimization of innovative approaches for T. atroviride.

Monitoring specialized metabolites production.

Generation of deletion mutants for identified effectors.

Coordination with collaboration partners.

Writing scientific articles and participating in symposiums/conferences.

Supporting the supervision of MSc and BSc students.

PROFILE:

MSc degree in Microbiology/Molecular Biology (strongly preferred), Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.

Experience with filamentous fungi, sterile techniques, and media preparation.

Experience in nucleic acid handling (PCR, cloning, miniprep, restriction digestion) and fungal transformation is appreciated.

Experience with fluorescence microscopy.

Knowledge of programming (R), statistical analysis, or bioinformatics is strongly appreciated.

Excellent English (written/oral); basic German is a plus.

Strong analytical skills, teamwork, and ability to work independently.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

30 h/week, salary at FWF doctoral candidate level (approx. EUR 49,320 gross/year).
