Abstract
Apostolo Zeno
Poesie drammatiche
Edizione critica
a cura di Adriana De Feo e Alfred Noe
Parte I: Venezia e oltre (1696-1717)
Volume 2: da Il Venceslao (1703) ad Alessandro Severo (1717)
This is the first part of a complete critical edition of Apostolo Zenos Drammi per musica
based on the first complete edition by Gasparo Gozzi, published by Giambattista Pasquali
1744 in Venice, plus two libretti not included in the above mentioned edition. The title
Venezia e oltre describes the early period in Zenos production, mainly his texts for Venetian
theatres and some foreign court theatres.
Undoubtedly, Zeno was one of the most relevant librettists of his time. He worked in several
Italian cities and was finally appointed Caesarean poet at the Imperial court in Vienna. Along
with his more famous successor Pietro Metastasio, Zeno played therefore a major role in the
history of the 18th century opera and oratorio.
This second volume comprises nine texts from Il Venceslao (1703) to Alessandro Severo
(1717) with the following parts in Italian: 1) the structure of the complete edition; 2) the
description of the editorial criteria; 3) the libretto texts and their variants in footnotes; 4) the
editorial apparatus with a comprehensive decription of the literary sources of each libretto and
its contemporary editions until 1800.
