The "From Brain to Mind science communication initiative aims at communicating advances
in cognitive neuroscience to a broad audience in an engaging, accessible way. With a team of
researchers and communication experts, the project employs three main methods to make
complex scientific topics understandable and relevant to the general public
The heart of the project is a short documentary-style featurette that introduces core questions
in cognitive neurosciencesuch as "How does the brain produce the mind?" and "How do
scientists study mental processes?" Through simple language, visual storytelling, and expert
interviews, the featurette explores topics like memory, perception, emotion, and
consciousness, making the science behind them accessible to the public.
In addition, the project includes a podcast series, and short video abstracts of published
scientific work. Both senior researchers and doctoral students discuss specific research topics,
such as sleeps role in learning or how emotions shape behaviour as well as everyday
challenges. The podcasts offer insights into the everyday work of neuroscientists, humanizing
the field and highlighting career paths. By addressing broader topics like gender and other
challenges in academia and the future of cognitive neuroscience, these podcasts aim to deepen
the listeners interest.
"From Brain to Mind" prioritizes accessibility by using non-technical language and versatile
media formats to make neuroscience approachable and interesting. By reaching different
audiences and focusing on sciences societal impact, the project aims to bridge the gap
between research and public understanding, inspiring interest in STEM fields and fostering a
scientifically informed community
