Abstract
In the series "The Manuscript Tradition of the Works of St. Augustine," volumes have already appeared for all the
European countries that have a considerable number of Latin manuscripts, with the exception of France and a few
countries of the former Eastern block. The new volume for Switzerland lists manuscripts of the North African
Father of the Church that, because of their antiquity, are particularly important and interesting for editors and
patristic scholars. The pseudo-Augustinian writings steming from the high- -and late-medieval periods, which have
also been included, give medievalists and theologians an insight into the reception of Augustine, which is so
important for the theological discussions of that Period.
The comparatively small number of manuscripts analyzed in this catalogue, approximately 630, has permitted that
the Sermons be listed in part I, the list of manuscripts according to the works of Augustine, with the same detail as
the Letters. In view of the recent discoveries in these two areas, namely, the Divjak Letters and the Dolbeau
Sermons, this will facilitate further investigation and identifications. So too, the appendix has been expanded to
include besides an index of unidentified initia an index of ancient and medieval authors.
