Abstract
The "Maximilian-Regesten" - i.e. historical abstracts of documents, records, letters etc. relating to the reign of
Maximilian I. (1493-1519) - as the Regesta Imperii in general are pure research on all sorts of documents relating
to the history of the Holy Roman Empire, Austria and Europe. Based on approximately 40.000 documents
collected in all larger archives of Austria, Germany an Europe since the last 50 years, the single volumes of
"Ausgewählte Regesten des Kaiserreiches unter Maximilian I. 1493-1519" draw up the essential features of the
Austrian, German an European history during the reign of Maximilian I. In that way the first three volumes of "J.F.
Böhmer (Begr.): Ausgewählte Regesten des Kaiserreichs unter Maximilian I. 1493-1519", edited by Hermann
Wiesflecker Wien - Köln - Weimar 1990-1998, are already edited. The edition is done by following the modern
methods an directions of writing historical abstracts within the Regesta Imperii. Each abstract gives the date an the
essential content of each document followed by a citical apparatus (description of the source and its archival
location, bibliographical references, notes etc.)
Our 4th volume of "J.F. Böhmer (Begr.), Regesta Imperii XIV: Ausgewählte Regesten des Kaiserreiches unter
Maximilian I. 1493-1519" contains in part 1: Maximilian I. 1502-1504, 3.711 abstracts of documents relating to the
major internal matters of the Holy Roman Empire as well as to the foreign policy of Maximilian I. and his relations
to the Pope, France, Spain, England, Hungary, Poland, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Venice an all other Italian
states. The internal affaires of the Emipre and the Austrian hereditary countrys mostly concern the transformation
and reformation of the state towards early modern government, and the foreign policy of Maximilian I. as King of
the Romans during this years is dominated by his plans to obtain the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, to organize
a crusade against the Turks and to make the so called "Haus Habsburg /Casa d`Austria" a leading European power.
All further details are given in the introduction of volume 4/1.
