Abstract
This second volume of the publication of the results of excavations at the Tetragonos Agora, Ephesos (Western
Turkey), within the renowned "Forschungen in Ephesos" series, brings together studies which are thematically very
diverse.
In Part One, an overview of the results of the excavations carried out between 1902 - 1907 and 1976 - 2001 in this
area, with its 1.500 year buliding history, will be offered. The Agora was laid out in the 3rd century B.C. on top of
a village settlement and ist accompanying necropolis, dating back to the 8th century. In the early Roman Imperial
period, the market place experienced a significant expansion, in the late 4th century CE a large-scale renovation,
and finally in the 6th century CE a final fundamental reorganisation.
In Part Two, the results from the Classical period (5th and 4th centuries B.C.) will be discussed in detail. Of main
interest here are the installation of a well filled with numerous ceramic vessels, several basin installations of
industrial purpose, and the sarcophagus burial of a young man with a lyre. Proceeding from a discussion of the
finds excavated at the Tetragonos Agora, Part Three ist concerned with individual Studies of imported and locally-
produced ceramic wares, of trade contacts, and of zoology.
