Abstract
The "Maximilian-Regesten" - i.e. historical abstracts of documents, records, letters, etc., relating to the reign of
Maximilian I. (1493 - 1519) - as the Regesta Imperii in general are fundamental basic research on the history of
Austria, the Holy Roman Empire and Europe. Based on the sources collected in all larger archives of Austria,
Germany and Europe the particular volumes of "Ausgewählte Regesten des Kaiserreichs unter Maximilian I. 1493 -
1519" draw up the essential features of the Austrian, German and European history during the reign of Maximilian
I.
The edition is done by following the modern methods and directions of writing historical abstracts Each abstract
gives the date and essential content of the source followed by an critial appartus (description of the source and its
archival location, bibliographical reference, notes).
In that way the first volumes of "J.F. Böhmer (Begr.): Regesta Imperii XIV: Ausgewählte Regesten des
Kaiserreichs unter Maximilian I. 1493 - 1519. Bearbeitet von H. Wiesflecker u.a., Wien - Köln - Weimar 1990 -
2004" are already edited (Vol. 1 - 4/1 also online: http://regesta-imperii.de). Covering the first 12 years of the reign
of Maximilian I. these four volumes contain about 22000 historical abstracts, approximately the half of the whole
research proposal.
Our work takes place at the Research Center of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Graz where the something
over 40000 historical abstracts collected until today are located and may be consulted by all interested historians
(mail to: ingeborg.wiesflecker@uni-graz.at or manfred.holleger@oeaw.ac.at).
