Abstract
The Bacterial Ghost (BG) system based on E-mediated lysis of Gram-negative bacteria has been developed as
novel inactivated vaccine platform. The innovative BG platform will be combined with live attenuated Vibrio
anguillarum which express foreign antigens to elicit high specific immune responses in fish closely resembling
natural immunity to infectious agents. This work will promote the development of safe Vibrio anguillarum live
vaccine(s) and BGs derived thereof by in vivo induction of the E-lysis process as multivalent vaccine candidate(s).
Proof of principle will be demonstrated in this project by implementing this innovative technology for marine fish
pathogens causing great loss of profits in aquaculture all over the world. This new platform technology will have
universal applicability for a broad range of vaccine candidates. This project will result in increased safety, reduced
total vaccine administration, high flexibility in vaccine combinations, increased opportunities for new vaccine
development and reduced vaccine costs.
