Final report

The great Russian engineer Vladimir Grigorevic uchov invented famous technical innovations. International attention is payed particularly to his revolutionary building constructions. uchov conceived lightweight structures that constitute the most progressive and original solutions in the history of building with iron. His hanging roofs in form of nets, his gridshells and gridtowers in form of hyperboloids extort admiration by simplicity and elegance of construction and by originality of the forming.Focal points of the Innsbruck (sub-) project were: Interpretation of the processes of developing and formfinding of the extremely light structures, analyzes of important, outstanding projects and production of a comprehensive catalogue of uchovs buildings. Many historical documents in Russian archives and collections have been discovered in long term researches and have been analyzed. uchovs constructive innovations, his plannings and processes of constructing, the form and structure of his buildings, his role in the international history of construction have been evaluated and have been interpreted new. The spectacular story of the Moscow radio tower - from the first 350 m design as the worlds highest building up to the150 m tower, built under most difficult conditions - is told all over again.
