Abstract
Preterm labour remains a major problem in obstetrics, but the mechanisms of preterm labour are not fully
understood. This work should clarify whether NFkB (nuclear factor kappa B) plays an important role in the onset
of term and preterm labour, by increasing the of prostaglandins and interleukines. In addition the hypothesis will be
tested, that NFkB is responsible for the induction of labour by inhibiting the tocolytic action of progesterone
through downregulation of the progesterone receptor.
