This research project aims at developing and implementing a new and innovative database system and its specific content which will be focused on copyright law and its practical impact on creative industries. The knowledge base shall provide specific information for both lay persons and experts, giving each the chance of an intuitive access to information on copyright law and at the same time providing the option for a comprehensive expertise including all relevant legal issues. Besides bringing together the needs of those two differing target groups, the access to information and the output generated by such requests shall be multi-dimensional, meaning that each answer will be available in different languages and for different countries and their legal systems, which in case of copyright issues in the digital world constitute a necessary but still unaccomplished feature. To enable the achievement of these goals both an innovative user interface and a specific data input system will be implemented by software specialists in the field of legal informatics. A group of scientist specialized on intellectual property law will answer the most relevant questions concerning copyright issues in the digital world in order to build up the knowledge base copyright law. The contents of KB:Law| will be accessible online by a specific user interface which will be open to the public at no costs whatsoever, thus the aim of promoting success and competitiveness of creative industries can be achieved without additional barriers. This user-oriented strategy is set to communicate copyright knowledge and the use of it outside the scientific community. This research programme shall hereby lay the ground for a sustainable environment committed to open access to information. The team is experienced and highly qualified in intellectual property law, legal informatics, and technology assessment and comprises highly qualified international scientists and consultants in these areas of research.
