Abstract
Final report
The prehistoric mound of Karanovo is one of the most important sites in Southeastern-Europe. With a depth of
12,4 meters of cultural layers it represents the cultural development from the end of the 7th to the middle of the 3rd
mill. BC. The uppermost strata belong to the Early Bronze Age (late 4th and 1st half of the 3rd mill.).
Excavations of the Bronze Age Strata, undertaken by the joint Austrian-Bulgarian team, started in summer
2000.Together with important architectural remains a great lot of pottery (deposits) were found.
The respective project will support the study of this pottery, which is of outstanding importance as to our
knowledge for Bronze Age Thrace and adjacent regions, found from 2000-2004.
