The projected comprehensive annotated bibliography on Nibelungen-research for the years 1945-2005 covers all studies (including pseudo-academic publications) on the Nibelungenlied and other medieval texts of the Nibelungen saga published in the given period. Modern versions of the Nibelungen saga (e. g. Wagner, Hebbel) are excluded for pragmatic reasons. The content of each study will be presented in a short summary and indexed according to topics and works discussed. Several indices will facilitate the use of the annotated bibliography. The bibliography will be published as a monograph, if possible with an attached CD-ROM-version. The bibliography provides an efficient and pragmatic survey of Nibelungen research 1945-2005, which in its diversity and quantity is no longer fathomable by a single person. Furthermore, the chronological order of the entries will demonstrate the change in scientific interests and the major paradigm shifts over the last decades. Finally, the presentation of previous scholarly results and trends can work as an essential incentive for Nibelungen research to come.
