The present volume summarises the outcomes of the ASMOSIA XIII (Association for the Study of Marble and Other Stones In Antiquity) international conference, which took place from September19th to 24th 2022. The executive organization of the ASMOSIA XIII conference was the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Science and the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien. ASMOSIA is the only international organisation specialised on the scientific investigation of ancient marbles, and to some extent also on other decorative stones in art, decorative architecture and building material are included in the issues of the conference. In triennial periods the organization calls on the international scientists in this field to present their recent scientific results and on-going works. In this sense the ASMOSIA conference is the only event worldwide for specialists working in the scientific investigation, archaeological and art historic research on ancient marble and other stones. The contributions in this volume represent the actual achievements of the scientific society in the field of scientific investigations of marble used in antiquity. Besides this demonstration of the state of the art it is of pivotal importance that the ASMOSIA proceedings are the means of announcement, distribution and free access of the current and new databases in this field. Like in the previous conferences the focus in this volume lies on the scientific investigation of provenance, mining, trade, and processing of ancient marble. However, several contributions deal with paint and pigments and other art historical issues of artefacts of marble and other stones. These contributions were presented in 8 sessions during the conference. As usual one session (session 8) was conceded to the organizers to cover regional issues within the frame program of the conference.
