Abstract
The book Tra i libri di Isacco Argiroprovides a biographical and historical study
of the figure of Isaac Argyros, a Byzantine scholar. Argyros was active in the Palaeologan
period as a copyist and philologist and worked in the Constantinopolitan Monastery of
Chora, where he devoted himself to the study of classical and religious works. On the
basis of the written testimonies of Argyros, this work helped to appreciate his philological
abilities as well as the variety of his interests.
In addition, the reconstructed book collection of Argyros allows to more precisely
define Argyros` reading, writing and authoring habits as well as his relationship to the
scientific circle of Chora Monastery. Furthermore, this work brought to light personalities
whose activity has not only contributed to the cultural Renaissance of the Palaeologan
period, but also ensured the survival and transmission of classical texts through the
reading and copying of books.
