Abstract
The aim of this book is to recognize the work of Doz. Sylvia Moosmüller in the field
of acoustic phonetics, which deals with the acoustic analysis of speech sounds. The
essays in this volume are located in various fields of science. From sociophonetics,
which investigates the relationship between language and the social world, to
speech technology, where applications such as automatic translation programs and
speaking computers are developed. In the first essay of the volume, Barbara
Soukup deals with the topic of the various attitudes that are adopted towards
language. Ralf Vollmann then deals with the difference between standard language
and dialect. Brigitte Eisenwort and her co-authors dedicate themselves to growing
up multilingual and language development disorders. Michael Pucher and Sylvia
Moosmüller show how speech synthesis methods can contribute to a fruitful
acoustic-phonetic analysis. Felicitas Kleber and co-authors dedicate themselves to
the validity of Pfalz Law using the example of two Viennese dialects. In the work
of Michaela Rausch-Supola and co-authors, in which Sylvia Moosmüller was also
involved, the spread of the Meidlinger "L" is examined in a comparison of Vienna
and Neunkirchen. The concluding contribution by Friedrich Neubarth deals with the
possibilities of transcribing the Viennese dialect for use in machine translation.
