Abstract
The study examines young people`s attitudes toward creation and evolution on the basis of 40 in-
depth interviews. It finds: Whether young people can reconcile the Christian creation belief with
scientific theories on the origins of the world and life does not depend solely on their knowledge and
cognitive abilities whether they recognize the biblical creation texts as myths and understand the
meaning of creation. Emotional and existential factors are at least as important. What offers
reassurance and orientation in the world? What meets the desire for autonomy? What provides
purpose and identity? For young people, these are essential questions that shape their attitudes
towards creation and evolution.
