Abstract
The uvre of the Austrian writer Werner Kofler (19472011) represent in an idiosyncratic and
convincing way a résumé of Austrian history and cultural history (W. Schmidt-Dengler). In
2018, the publication of volumes I to III of the Annotated Edition made a significant contribution
to the understanding of his texts and the canonization of his work. Now, with volumes IV and V,
the edition (Sonderzahl Verlag, Vienna) is completed and the entire range of his writing is made
accessible to readers and researchers.
Volume IV of the edition presents 20 radio playsand thus an essential part of the work of this
auditorily and radiophonically thinking and working author. In addition, the printed radio plays
together with the audio files provided on the online research platform www.wernerkofler.at
offer rich material for radio play research. Volume V gathers poetry (exemplary), sh ort prose,
and dramatic texts, thus showing hitherto lesser-known sides of Koflers uvre.
Both volumes also provide literary scholars with rich textual material for further research into
the phenomena of intermediality, voice, and polyphony. Koflers texts are made accessible in this
compact edition of his works, which is designed for readability, with afterwordsbut above all
with a detailed textual commentary, which can also be accessed and searched online.
