The biannual open access journal Wiener Digitale Revue (www.univie.ac.at/wdr) offers current research insights in the fields of literary and cultural research and Digital Humanities. Developed by a mediological research network based at the German Department at the University of Vienna, it provides an innovative platform to demonstrate, address and discuss new possibilities and approaches that have emerged from the digital turn in Humanities. Each issue has a distinct thematic focus and a four-part structure: firstly, the focal topic is dedicated to a topic that is highly relevant to modern discourse and that promises to yield interesting insights and contribute new aspects to the field of literary and cultural history all contributions to this section are peer-reviewed, and calls are open to the international academic community; secondly, the section on digital practice introduces projects and contributions that apply methods from Digital Humanities; thirdly, the message board features historical case studies and interviews on each issues thematic focus as well as student contributions and miscellanea; finally, the renowned literary critic Daniela Strigl presents her pointedly formulated opinion on the focal topic and on present-day literary phenomena in her video blog Strigls Revue. Applying the Open Journal System (OJS) enables the long-term archiving of the journals contributions. It provides an apt and easy applicable software for the maintenance as well as a basic structure into which various implementations can be added. Another major innovative aspect is the journals technical structure. The contributions are presented in the machine- readable community standard forum TEI-XML, offering several advantages: Foremost, combined with the OJS workflow, it allows low-budget production and only needs limited development and little technical support. Furthermore, using TEI-XML a continuum between primary and secondary scholarly publications can be established that allows interactive linking, embedding, and data migration. The corresponding PDF files and also HTML pages are created from these documents via XSL transformation. The editorial board has set all basic requirements to give journal publishing in the field of literary and cultural studies with the Wiener Digitale Revue a new momentum the journal fulfills its academic task in innovative digital research in both content and form. With regard to the requirements of the Plan S initiative, all mandatory principles for open publishing are complied.
