Today’s media landscape is characterized by exaggeration and populism – how can science still make itself heard? By invitation of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the FWF, chemist and science journalist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim will be coming to Vienna to address this question. © Boris Breuer

The current media landscape is not particularly hospitable to science-related topics. Frequently, wild theories, exaggerations, and populism seem to be winning the battle for public attention. Science, on the other hand, thrives on differentiation, details, and shades of gray. On April 22 at 4:00 pm, German science journalist Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim will take the stage in the Festsaal of the Austrian Academy of Sciences to explain how science can still make itself heard.

In her talk “The Age of (Dis)Information: Making Science Heard Above the Clamor,” she will be sharing her experiences from ten years of media work. Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim is a television presenter for ARD and ZDF, a chemist, and an author. Her YouTube channel  MaiThinkX has 1.5 million followers. The science communicator is coming to Vienna by invitation of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Austrian Science Fund FWF in the run-up to this year’s Long Night of Research.
