The research project "Co-production of oncological rehabilitation and physiotherapy" aims to optimise the care of cancer patients through tailored physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. The project is based on the EU mission "Cancer: Conquering Cancer - Mission Possible". Background and research objectives: Despite major advances in cancer treatment, many patients are still confronted with physical, cognitive and psychosocial limitations that restrict their quality of life. Studies show that rehabilitation and physiotherapy can alleviate symptoms and improve people`s functionality and participation. However, cancer patients still face obstacles when it comes to rehabilitative services. This is precisely where the "Co-production of oncological rehabilitation and physiotherapy" project comes in, with the aim of integrating and optimising rehabilitation and physiotherapy in all phases of curative and palliative oncological care. Through close cooperation between research and practice, the project strengthens knowledge about the needs of cancer patients in Austrian society. It aims to identify existing gaps in the provision of oncological rehabilitation and use customised approaches to improve the individual care of patients with rehabilitative and physiotherapeutic services. Innovative approach and methods: The project pursues an innovative approach in which patients and professionals are actively involved in the research process. Various participatory research methods are combined in order to understand the needs and expectations of those affected and to develop appropriate measures. The project is divided into three main areas: 1. developing knowledge: Eliciting the experiences and needs of patients and professionals to develop targeted services. 2. designing and implementing measures: Joint development and implementation of customised interventions. 3. review results: Scientific assessment of the effectiveness of the measures developed and their adaptation to the needs of patients. Project management and partnerships: The University of Applied Sciences FH Campus Wien (PI: Priv-Doz. Dr Ley) is leading the project and implementing it together with the Medical University of Vienna (PI: Univ.-Prof. DDr. Masel) and the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt (PI: Dr Tatzer). Cooperation partners include the Sonnberghof Oncological Rehabilitation Centre (Dr. Hassler), Austrian Cancer Aid, PhysioAustria and the Austrian Palliative Society. This strong partnership ensures that the scientific findings are put into practice and the measures are adapted to the needs of the patients.
