Band 1: Wien Wolfgang BREZINKA 06.03.2000 For the first time this book describes in three volumes the history of the discipline pedagogics (educational science, educology) at Austrian universities between 1774 and 1999. Included are the universities of Vienna, Prague, Graz, Innsbruck, Czernowitz, Salzburg, Linz, Klagenfurt and the University for Economics in Vienna. The book is based primarily on records from the various university archives as well as from the Austrian, Czech and German state archives. It offers a history of the academic institutions, staff and teachings in the field of pedagogics. Special attention is given to the procedures for the recruitment of professors and lecturers by faculties and the central state authority (since 1848: ministry of education). The first volume contains as an introduction a survey of the political, cultural and educational framework common to all Austrian universities. In the main part it deals with pedagogics at the university of Vienna as the leading and most influential institution in the Austrian monarchy as well as in the Austrian republic.
