Abstract
The subject of this monography is ancient Celticity and its relations to the medi-terranean civilisations with special
regard to the information provided about it by antique literary sources, i.e. Greek and Latin authors from the
classical age to late antiquity. The quite scattered material is to be collected and evaluated from different point of
view, as far as possible in comparison with the evidence put forth by archaeology and linguistic.
The volume titled "Migrations of the Celts in ancient literary sources" covers the movements of Celtic peoples
down to the Roman conquest of the continental parts of the ancient Keltike. It is not meant to present a coherent
delineation of the topic, but wants to give a comparative analysis of the Greek and Latin texts and their authors,
their sources, their place in literary history, and, above all, their value for our comprehension of these migration
phenomena. The testimonia are given in full quotation, filed in historical context and comprised in chapters
according to geographic coherence. Altogether, 77 texts by 44 writers, some of them merely rewriting other
authors, are collected, translated (in German) and commented on.
