The Austrian composer Carlmann Pachschmidt was born 1700 in Eisenstadt, he died 1734 in Vienna. Today he is
nearly unknown, in the literature he is mentioned only in a few works, for example in the Musik in Geschichte und
Gegenwart and in The Grove. Pachschmidt entered the Benedictine Schottenkloster in Vienna in 1721 and was
ordained priest in 1723. In 1725 he became choirmaster and conductor there. Beginning from 1721 he composed
more than 40 works, including 10 masses, 3 Dies irae, 2 Stabat Mater, 3 introiti, 5 motets, some arias, 1 symphony,
music for Lateinschule plays and so on.
The Denkmäler der Tonkunst in Österreich Vol. 155 will consist in
a) transcription of the so called Missa Sancti Carolomanni and the Sinfonia and
b) in these two compositions concerning "Critical Reports"
The intention of the work ist, to call in mind Pachschmidt and to make possible the performance of two of his up to
this day unpublished works.
