Genes are governed by the cell machinery in complicated ways. Our project aims to understand some of the complexity of gene regulation by playing around with one of the key signals that regulates the usage of a specific gene. To achieve this goal, we will use an in-house tool to grow bacteria and to test how changes in the genetic makeup of the regulator of one gene influence bacterial growth. This work will help us understand how gene regulation works and evolves in bacteria.
