Abstract

Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship J 1957 Barnabas: historical person, literary portrait and reception Markus ÖHLER 26.6.2000 The apostle Barnabas was an important figure in Early Christianity and is mentioned in dicisive passages in the Acts of the Apostles. The project has three aims: First it with provide an inquiry into Barnabas` personality and social background as well as of his roles in the communities in Jerusalem and Antioch and as a missionary. Second I will try to reconstruct the literary portrait of Barnbas in Acts, and third it with be asked how Barnabas was adopted in later Christian literature.
