Abstract
The aim of the project is to develop and test new luminescent ruthenium complexes. Their spectroscopic properties
will be examined in the presence and absence of DNA and their applicability as DNA probes will be explored. Due
to steric considerations some of the synthesized complexes might be potentially useful as recognition agents for
base mismatches in DNA. This would yield the first site-specific luminescent DNA probe. In addition, the
complexes will be tested as photooxidation or photoreduction probes in DNA.
