Griechische Lehnwörter im Koptischen. Dokumentarische Texte

The aim of the project is to publish a dictionary of Greek words in Coptic texts. Coptic texts from the beginning of the language up to the middle ages will be searched for Greek words. The words which are found will be presented in a dictionary and can thus be the necessary tool for further studies like the usage of Greek words after the beginning of the Arabic government in Egypt. The study focuses on documentary texts, that are all non-literary texts as letters and contracts, which are the mirror of the spoken language. In the library of the Papyrussammlung of the Nationalbibliothek are all editions of Coptic texts as well as many original papyri available. Thus it is possible to finish the lexicon within two years. The project is an international cooperation with the Seminar for Orientalistik in Halle (Prof. Tubach). In Halle the literary texts will be searched for Greek words. The publication will be available both as a book and as CD-Rom.
