Research project P 14376 "Digital Libraries: Future Technology" Roland WAGNER 06.03.2000
The rapid development of the Internet, the WWW and database technology makes it possible to search and process
multimedia material such as documents, images, and sounds which are stored in databases at different locations
distributed all over the world. The present style of libraries can change drastically if such systems were used.
Taking account of this social context, digital libraries are a very promising technology for the future.
At this joint seminar, researchers from both Austria and Japan will discuss database technology, multimedia
processing, user interfaces, etc., for the purpose of developing advanced digital libraries.
The seminar is supposed to be the starting-point for the generation of a joint research project with the title
"Information Technology for the Coming Net Millenium: Towards a Global Digital Library".
