The project "Photography in Austria 1919 to 1945" is a continuation of the project "Photography in Austria 1839 to
1918". It entails creating a digital archive to store and link information on the life, activities and publications of the
relevant people, and on the development and influence of institutions and companies. Not only are individual
photographers to be taken into account, but also contemporary agents in the field of photography - be they scholars,
traders, teachers etc. - plus photography societies, training centres, publishers, industrial companies etc., in as far as
they were located and active within the borders of what is today Austria. The bibliographical register will include
all books published by the above mentioned people, and texts which appeared in Austrian photography journals
and other magazines. Also included will be references to exhibitions, conferences and other events to do with
photography. Where appropriate, these entries will be complemented by explanations or quotations of important
passages, thus making it possible to speak of an annotated register. In addition to access by name, chronological
period, type of publication etc., a comprehensive catalogue of keywords will facilitate theme-related inquires and,
consequently, interdisciplinary utilisation. For the first time, therefore, the whole range of cultural activities in the
field of photography from the nineteenth century to the end of the Second World War can be accessed.
