Abstract
High spatial resolution spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the solar atmosphere shall be made possible
by a new observing facility - a two dimensional spectrometer based on Fabry-Perot interferometers - for the new
German solar telescope "GREGOR". Combined with in-situ and post focus image reconstruction techniques
imaging spectroscopy of solar surface structures down to spatial scales of about 0.1 arcsec shall be achievable.
At these scales, important magnetohydrodynmaic processes are supposed to appear. The scientific aim hence is to
gain a deeper insight into the formation and the dynamics of small-scale magnetic and convective phenomena on
the Sun.
