Ladinian Linguistic Atlas, 2nd part

The present application`s objective concerns the completion of the research project "Ladinian Linguistic Atlas, second part". The 24 months of the application`s period of 2011-2012 will be concentrating totally on the editorial work, i. e. the preparing of the final print version of about 1100 atlas maps of the ALD-II and its respective supplement and index volumes (alphabetical, inverse and grammatical indexes). The final result of these works will be handed over in the form of pdf-files to a (yet not known) printer or editorial house. This extremely challenging and time consuming work will have to be done by a well trained team, consisting of three and a half full-time graduated co-workers and several external assistants with excellent philological and linguistic competences (employed with free-lance contracts). The whole work will be based on the general ALD-II- software called "Dialect Map Generator" (DMG) created by Edgar Haimerl. The further development of the program DMG will be ensured by Edgar Haimerl (also employed with free-lance contracts) and one of the above mentioned full time co-workers during the whole period of these two years.

The Ladinian linguistic atlas with the acronym ALD consists of two parts: ALD-I and ALD-II. ALD-I has been accomplished and published in seven volumes between 1985 and 1998, whereas ALD-II has been elaborated since 1999 and achieved in 2012, again in seven volumes. The research grid comprises 217 inquiry points embracing about 25 000 km2. ALD-I informs over his 884 linguistic maps on problems of phonetics and elementary morphology, whereas ALD-II comprises 1066 linguistic maps related to the following linguistic topics: elaborated morphology, syntax and vocabulary. Beside the printed und published seven volumes one can find in our webpage (http://ald2.sbg.ac.at/) supplementary electronic tools which allow the full text research in the transcription data of ALD-II and also the precise listening of all our sound recordings.
