Explainable AI
In this study an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system will be developed, that can recognize Austrian dialects and that can also explain how it came to this decision. Furthermore we will ask Citizen scientists to classify the dialect of speech samples, and compare this classifications with the ones from the AI system. In this way we will be able to compare the human and the machine decision. Participants will also have the possibility to record their own language on a web interface and gain knowledge about how their dialect is classified by the system. This gives citizens the possibility to get insights into the working mechanisms of an AI system and understand decision processes. It gives citizens a point of contact with the current (often overwhelming) development of AI systems and connects them with scientific research.
