Description of project:

Cyanobacterial photobiotransformations are an attractive reaction system for sustainable biocatalysis. The focus of the project lies in the establishment of light-driven biocatalytic reactions and the combination of cell-engineering, systems biology and bioreactor engineering to increase the productivity of these reactions. The project combines molecular cell engineering and bioprocess engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research on enzyme engineering, whole-cell biocatalysis, and photobiocatalysis
  • Documentation of scientific results and presentations in the form of reports, specialist publications, and conference contributions

Embedding in the Cluster of Excellence Circular Bioengineering:

The project is embedded in the Cluster of Excellence Circular Bioengineering Program 3 “Biocatalytic Processes for Sustainable Synthesis”, and has strong links to research groups working on enzymatic synthesis within Program 3.

Candidate Profile:

  • PhD in Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biosciences, or related disciplines.
  • Outstanding academic record;
  • Advanced knowledge in one of the following areas: biocatalysis, photobiocatalysis, protein chemistry, molecular biology, or whole-cell biotransformation 
  • Excellent English language skills (spoken and written) 
  • Ability to work independently and scientifically; flexibility and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment; high level of resilience

Salary:

Minimum gross monthly salary according to the B1 salary group according to the Austrian university collective agreement.
