Program-specific FAQ

Is funding available for the open-access publication of individual peer-reviewed contributions in edited volumes or of book chapters?

  • For individual book chapters or contributions in OA edited volumes that meet the conditions of the Peer-Reviewed Publications program (see Application Guidelines, page 3), reimbursement of publishing costs can be requested by filing a PUR application until December 31, 2023.
  • Guidelines for projects approved between November 1, 2014, and December 31, 2020: The OA publication of a single book chapter or contribution in an edited volume can be funded up to an amount of €1,500 if it is published in a book or edited volume edited by someone other than the author and complies with the Application Guidelines of the Peer-Reviewed Publications program (page 3). Individual book chapters or contributions in edited volumes may also be funded from the global budget if they are published in a book or edited volume edited by someone other than the author and comply with the Application Guidelines of the Peer-Reviewed Publications program (page 3).
  • Guidelines for projects approved on or after January 1, 2021: Contributions to edited volumes or book chapters that are not published in full open access cannot be funded from or charged to the global budget.
