Close to €4 million for More Cutting-Edge Research in the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Program
The EuregioScienceFund of the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino is extending its successful cooperation with the FWF in order to continue funding collaborative basic research projects. In what is now the sixth call for this program, close to €4 million in funding is once again available to implement multi-year, interregional research projects. The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) will again be responsible for administering the call and for preparing a quality-assured decision-making process in accordance with FWF standards. The projects themselves are carried out at the universities and research institutions of all three provinces/regions of the Euregio. The aim is to further strengthen the innovative power of the Euregio as well as research cooperation and to offer attractive jobs in research.
Hagele, Achammer, Spinelli: “Strengthening the Euregio with knowledge and innovation”
The members of the provincial government responsible for science, research, and universities, Cornelia Hagele, Member of the Regional Government of Tyrol, currently the Euregio chairing province, Philipp Achammer, Member of the Provincial Government of South Tyrol, and Achille Spinelli, Deputy Governor of Trentino, are calling on researchers from institutions in all three Euregio provinces to get involved in cross-border cooperation and submit collaborative proposals: The funding program not only strengthens the innovative power of the Euregio region and scientific cooperation in the three Euregio regions, but also creates attractive research jobs, resulting in professional and personal development opportunities for the researchers.
FWF Vice President Georg Kaser welcomes the new round of calls issued by the EuregioScienceFund. “Cooperation makes research successful. This year, the EuregioScienceFund is once again funding close cooperation between teams from all three regions in order to advance regionally relevant, future-oriented research topics. The selection procedure by the FWF guarantees the high scientific quality of the research and emphasizes the innovative potential of the funded projects.”
Application period open until May 26
The Euregio works closely with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) to ensure that funding is awarded in a transparent and quality-assured manner. All project ideas are evaluated on the basis of the FWF’s international peer review process, and the FWF then provides the Euregio with funding recommendations.
Researchers interested in applying can find further information on the FWF website under Country-Specific Collaborations – Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino. The call opened in March and will run until May 26, 2026 (2:00 pm). Funded projects will be able to start in summer 2027. They are required to have a duration of 24 to 36 months and research institutions from all three Euregio regions must be involved.
EuregioScienceFund: a 10-year scientific success story
One of the aims of the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino program is to promote and strengthen scientific research in the three provinces/regions. For this reason, in 2014, the Assembly of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation decided to set up a Euregio research fund. The EuregioScienceFund supports multi-year, joint research projects in the field of basic research in which all three Euregio regions are involved. Research topics should be in line with the objectives of the EuregioScienceFund to strengthen interregional cooperation at the scientific level. The first five funding rounds of the EuregioScienceFund were very successful, with over 230 submissions. A total of 25 selected cross-border projects have been funded so far.
