FWF Awards €74.3 Million for Excellent Basic Research

At the last Scientific Board meeting, the FWF's Scientific Consultants decided on numerous applications from a variety of programs, based on the results of international peer review. The 199 approved projects with a total funding amount of €74.3 million also include 62 projects from international programs. Around €24 million have been approved for these projects so far, but the final commitments from the partner organizations are still pending.
Top Citizen Science and Science Communication
In the Top Citizen Science program, researchers work together with interested citizens to generate substantial additional findings. In this round, five proposals with a funding volume of €495,554 were approved for funding.
The five New Top Citizen Science Projects:
- Andrea Siebenhofer-Kroitzsch: CONNECT – CONNecting Evidence-based health information and CiTizens; Medical University of Graz, Institute of General Practice and Evidence-Based Health Services Research
- Miriam Weidl: Empowering Multilingual Voices (EMuVo); University of Vienna, Department of Linguistics
- Lilian Konicar: Mental Health Literacy PARTY; Medical University of Vienna, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Sonia Kleindorfer: ReWilding Floreana Together; University of Vienna, Konrad Lorenz Research Center for Behavior and Cognition
- Martina Mara: ExplAIn Together; Johannes Kepler University Linz, LIT Robopsychology Lab
The FWF has also selected five innovative projects in the Science Communication program, which will be funded with a total of €498,023. This FWF program helps researchers carry out new and innovative projects in the field of science communication.
The approved Science Communication projects are:

- Gertraud Medicus: Granular Perspectives; University of Innsbruck, Department of Infrastructure Engineering
- Suzana Jovicic: Dreamscapes: Traversing Landscapes of Addiction; University of Vienna, Faculty of Social Sciences
- Stephan Elspaß: Communicating Dialects; Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Department of German Studies
- Marc Pignitter: Hidden Gems of Nutrition; University of Vienna, Faculty of Chemistry
