Knowledge Transfer Events Throughout Austria

How can research findings get to where they’re needed? Under the title “Spreading Knowledge,” the FWF is funding ten knowledge transfer events organized by researchers from FWF projects and carried out in cooperation with partners from academia, business, industry, and society.

Sharing new findings from basic research and strengthening the transfer of knowledge between science, business, industry, and society – the “Spreading Knowledge” program funds Knowledge Transfer Events all over Austria. From cutting-edge medicine and forestry to linguistic research, the events offer a wide range of topics for participants from different fields.

The first of the ten events was held in early July as part of the 2026 Regional Mountain Conference in Obergurgl, Tyrol. The focus was on the future of Alpine forests and the effects of climate change. At the event, botanist Stefan Mayr (University of Innsbruck) provided insights into the ecology of Alpine forests, the effects of climate change, and the latest scientific findings with practical relevance.

Knowledge-transfer events by and with FWF-funded researchers

More events are planned for the fall, covering a wide range of topics: from biotechnology, perinatal mental health, and mathematical modeling to RNA research, longevity medicine, cell biology, lung health, dialect research, and microbiome research. The formats range from symposia and professional conferences to networking and startup events.

Bringing research expertise to society

This series of events is intended to connect insights from basic research with various practical applications, build new networks, and strengthen the exchange between science and society. The FWF is supporting a total of ten events, with funds from the National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development.
