In the LUKE call, which will open on February 27, 2026, the FWF will be funding transnational research projects featuring researchers in Ukraine in collaboration with colleagues in at least two other participating countries. Subprojects located in Austria in the field of basic research will be eligible for FWF funding. For more application-oriented projects, funding is available from the FFG, the second Austrian research funding organization involved in the call. The call is open for proposals in the fields of energy, cyber security, health, and social development.

Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe program

LUKE (Linking Ukraine to the European Research Area - Joint Funding and Capacity Building Platform for Enhanced Research and Innovation Cooperation) is a network funded through Horizon Europe. Funding organizations from both EU Member States and associated countries are participating. The most important objectives include implementing a joint call, funding transnational research and innovation projects with Ukrainian participation, and strengthening Ukraine’s R&D capacities. A modern, efficient, and transparent science and innovation system is crucial for the future reconstruction and economic prosperity of Ukraine. Exchanging best practices, pooling resources, and supporting knowledge transfer can help to unlock Ukraine’s scientific potential, improve the framework conditions for research and innovation, and integrate the country more closely into the European Research Area (ERA). For further information, please see the European Commission’s Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS) page.
