Trees are made of cellulose - it gives them strength and shape. We can also use
cellulose to make useful things like filters, biodegradable electronics or medical
materials. But to do that, we often need to change its structure. Right now, this is
done with strong chemicals that harm the environment.
In my project, I use electricity, like the kind that powers a lightbulb, to change
cellulose in a cleaner way. I add special groups called aldehydes that open new
uses for cellulose. This process is safer, simpler, and greener. Its one small step
toward making everyday materials more sustainable.
