Transversal - Journal of Jewish Studies

transversal is a journal in the field of Jewish studies. It publishes in the main articles that explore Jewish culture and history from perspectives in cultural studies. An important feature of transversal is that its contributions conceptualize cultural processes, and thus Judaism and Jewish consciousness as dynamic complexes, as constituted by close interaction with the non-Jewish cultural sphere. Along with its explicit approach grounded on cultural studies, transversal is distinguished by two further aspects: first, a forum section where new developments in Jewish studies are presented or contemporary sociopolitical topics and issues relating to Jewish history and culture are described and discussed. Second, the possibility of presenting articles of an especially innovatory character or containing provocative theses to the scientific community. Without suspending the standard peer review process, texts whose assessment by individual reviewers remains ambivalent can also be discussed and critiqued by journal readers in this section of the forum. transversal addresses in particular scholars who can present original innovatory research findings and who wish to propose new methodological approaches. transversal seeks to target a broad spectrum of readers extending beyond the sphere of Jewish studies. Along with scholars and students in Jewish studies, that readership also includes, by dint of the core interdisciplinary conception of the journal, representatives of other disciplines as well. In addition, its forum seeks to reach a broader interested reading public. The journal sets great value upon the maintenance of a high-quality double-blind peer review procedure. After a first phase in which an international editorial team decides on basic qualitative standards of the articles submitted, they are passed on to two reviewers for evaluation. In regard to editorial policy and ethical standards, transversal adheres largely to the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
