Collaborative Research in Smaller Teams
Three new research groups are starting their work in small, Austria-wide networked teams. At the most recent FWF Scientific Board meeting, these proposals stood out based on their outstanding quality. The total approved funding volume amounts to €4.5 million, provided by the Fonds Zukunft Österreich.
The funded consortia now have the opportunity to pool their expertise, focus on a research question across multiple sites, and pursue inter- or multidisciplinary approaches. The three new research groups are coordinated by researchers from TU Wien, the University of Graz, and the University of Innsbruck. Researchers from BOKU University, the University of Salzburg, and the University of Vienna are also involved.

New funding program Specialized Research Groups to replace Research Groups
The funding programs Special Research Areas and Research Groups are currently being merged into a new program, Specialized Research Groups. This new funding opportunity is aimed at researchers who want to pool their expertise and strengthen collaborations. The more highly endowed yet flexible and adaptable Specialized Research Groups allow both small and large teams to conduct collaborative research projects at Austria’s research institutions.
